14 Efficient Ideas for Kitchen Organization and Space Creation

The kitchen is the heart of your home and has already provided you with many services. The stove has already prepared many meals for you and you have been able to serve many dinners. Not only for your own family, but also for friends and other family. The kitchen sink has already done you a lot of service, not just for preparing food.

You probably put your children there to wash their hands or feet when they were young. The kitchen floor is not only a space for your dining area but also for a dog basket, for example. And the walls of your kitchen have heard many stories told at the kitchen table.

The kitchen must fit like a jacket

The kitchen reflects you and your family, the way you work in it, and your household. A good setup can make or break this space. This also applies to the organization of your kitchen. Whether you have a large or small kitchen, keeping it organized and tidy doesn’t have to be difficult. And that does not have to be at the expense of the appearance of your kitchen. Functionality and design go well together.

Want to know the best way to store your spices or explore different ways to organize your countertops, cabinets, drawers, and pantry? Read and, above all, watch how you will never have to fill your cupboards with Tupperware again with these stylish projects and organizational tips. I promise!

#01. Reuse empty jars in a drawer

When I saw this I immediately thought: “Why didn’t I think of that myself!?” I thought it was brilliant and that’s why I’m starting this series with it.

Place the used and cleaned pots without lids on their jugs in a drawer, put in your ladles and other large cutlery and everything stays in place. I was still unsure whether the pots would roll around in the drawer, but as soon as you fill them up this is not the case. This way, the kitchen utensils are neatly tidy and it is no longer a ‘clutter’ drawer.

#02. Choose pots that match your interior

One way to keep your kitchen not only practical but also stylish is to choose storage jars that you like and put them in plain sight. So no Tupperware with flour and rice on your counter, but beautiful pots.

#03. Put groceries ‘packed’ in the refrigerator

If you also want to give your refrigerator a touch of style, add storage bins, baskets, and boxes. Admit it, it looks a lot neater and clearer. Moreover, you get a lot more space in your refrigerator; a basket with all the toppings takes up as much space on a shelf as a single item.

#04. Double the number of shelves

Double the number of shelves

With space savers like these wire shelves, you can multiply the vertical space in your kitchen cabinets, giving you much more room to store your dishes.

#05. Use Lazy Susan

We all have things that we always want to keep on the counter, such as salt, spices, oil, sugar, etc. However, they take up a lot of valuable space. Therefore, collect all these items on a Lazy Susan. This is a turntable and comes in many shapes and sizes. A great solution to prevent mess on the countertop.

If you want it a little more decorative, you can opt for a beautiful plateau or tray. It doesn’t spin, but it certainly looks nice.

#06. Suspend inspiration and motivation

Instead of a large notice board, you can also get cork pan coasters from Xenos and use them as small, round notice boards. Then make some fun and inspiring printables and hang them up. Also ideal for important notes, shopping lists, cards, children’s drawings, and other reminders.

#07. Make it the way you need it

Drawers are made for storage and organization, but that doesn’t mean they always fit your needs. You can change (the layout of) a drawer in such a way that the ‘junk’ drawer can be turned into an efficient, streamlined setup.

#08. Add drawers

Do you have deep kitchen cupboards and/or cupboards that are too high, which you can hardly reach without a step? Then adding an extra ‘drawer’ is a real solution. You can store a lot in it, such as placemats, tablecloths, Christmas clothes, and napkins. I have it for my tall cabinets. Ideal! Pull the drawer forward or out, grab what you need, and then push everything back again. No more steps for me in the kitchen.

#09. Add hooks where you can

You can hang hooks on the walls, inside the kitchen cabinets, under the shelves, wherever possible. This way you create space in the air. All those beautiful cups and mugs would otherwise just be behind a closed door and you will have space left if you take them out and hang them on hooks.

#10. Store kitchen textiles vertically

We are all used to making piles from folded textiles, that is how we were taught. And it may seem like a great way to keep towels and tea towels in order, but you’ll save yourself a lot of work if you store them vertically instead.

#11. Use a tension rod everywhere

Need a baking tin? It is not that easy to fish out your baking tray from under all your baking tins from a deep drawer. You can use tension rods for all kinds of purposes. Stretch them upright in a cupboard and place your baking tins or lids between them, or stretch a rod horizontally in a kitchen cupboard and you can hang or even put anything on it.

#12. Take the stuff out of the cupboards

One of the rules for a successful kitchen organization system is to avoid overcrowded kitchen cabinets. If you’re short on space in your cupboards, consider taking some items out of your cupboards and storing them elsewhere in your kitchen (or in your utility room).

#13. Use magnets

You can attach an iron strip to the bottom of your kitchen cupboards and provide the lids of nice jars with a magnet so that you can ‘stick’ the jars under your cupboards.

#14. Use labels

To get an overview of your pantry, use labels for all your storage jars. You can see what’s in it at a glance, but you can also immediately see which jar is empty and what needs to be added to your shopping list.
